As we celebrate the upcoming International Day of Older Persons (October 1, 2009), we recognize Dr. Alexandre Sidorenko as one of the world’s leading authorities on population aging. Dr. Sidorenko is retiring from the UN and his position as the UN Focal Point on Ageing. He served as Coordinator for the International Year of Older Persons and has been a central figure in virtually every landmark aging agreement, including the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and the UN Principles for Older Persons.
