Priority Theme: "Social Integration" 

Social Integration is the priority theme for the 2009-2010 review and policy cycle, taking into account the relationship with poverty eradication and full employment and decent work for all. The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) stresses that policies and strategies to achieve full employment and decent work for all should include specific measures to promote gender equality and foster social integration for social groups, such as youth, persons with disabilities, and older persons, as well as migrants and indigenous peoples. Civil Society Forum

In conjunction with the UN Commission for Social Development, Civil Society Forum will be organized on 3 February 2009. The outcome of the Forum (a declaration), will be presented during the first day of the Commission. General Assembly adopts Resolution on Ageing

SG Report on Ageing to the Commission for Social Development 

With regard to ageing and older persons, a report of the Secretary-General entitled "Further implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing: strategic implementation framework" (E/CN.5/2009/5) was issued for the  Commission for Social Development and is now available at:

African Union Meeting on Social Development 

The African Union (AU) held its first meeting of Ministers responsible for social development in Windhoek, Namibia on 30-31 October 2008. The AU adopted the first Africa-led Social Policy Framework for the continent, which is attached below. The AU also adopted the African Common Position on Social Integration (2009) as a contribution to the Commission for Social Development.
